Moments from the bushveld — patience, light, and a little luck.
Johan Evert is a wildlife photographer based in Nelspruit, on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park. His work has appeared in Wild Planet Photo Magazine, including the winning image for International Primate Day, and his connection to wildlife runs beyond the lens — in 2017 he planned and drove support for a 2,100 km charity cycle from Durban to Cape Town in aid of Save the Rhino.
Johan's first published images were taken on entry-level equipment — proof that the eye comes before the gear.
Johan's black-and-white portrait of a vervet monkey, photographed in the Kruger National Park, was selected as the winning image for International Primate Day and published as a full spread in the magazine's Global Awareness feature.
Wild Planet Photo Magazine, Global Awareness, pp. 174–175
A low-key black-and-white study of a yellow-billed hornbill, photographed in the Kruger National Park, featured across a double-page spread in the magazine's B&W Visions showcase.
Wild Planet Photo Magazine, B&W Visions, pp. 60–61
In October 2017 Johan planned the route and drove support for a 2,100 km charity cycle from Durban to Cape Town, raising funds for Save the Rhino and the Army Benevolent Fund.
